Have you kept the toys your kids played with, and do you bring them out when your grandkids come over?
<p>Some classic games, sure. Chess and checkers that my parents had.</p><p>We have both old games and some of the newest ones their friends have.</p><p>We have games that help us teach them about life.</p><p>Mostly action games, ones we can play and laugh with.</p><p>Yes, we've held onto most of them and keep them in a special place.</p><p>We don't have room in our downsized place, but we'll get some if needed.</p>
Do you travel a lot?
<p>We take trips with our college alumni group and occasional cruises.</p><p>We can't really afford to, except for vacations with our grandkids.</p><p>We like to travel and learn about new cultures, history and traditions.</p><p>Of course! Do you tend to host holiday family dinners at your home?
<p>Yes, we bring out the fine china and silver and teach the grandchildren how to set the table.</p><p>Of course, we're all together anyway.</p><p>We host one or two dinners a year and visit our kids to share time with them on the other holidays.</p><p>Sometimes it's at our place, sometimes our kids', and other times we take everyone out to a restaurant, especially on birthdays.</p><p>We rarely host at our place, but we do like to get together at our kids' place when we can.</p><p>Sometimes we vacation together over the winter holidays, but we don't usually catch up for other ones.</p>
Do you attend your grandchildrenâs performances, such as plays and recitals?
<p>Yes, we want to encourage their extracurricular activities.</p><p>Sure, we also help them practice and get ready.</p><p>We love to see them perform and we offer tips on stagecraft or musicianship.</p><p>Sure, and we take them out for a celebration meal after.</p><p>Usually we watch a video of the event.</p><p>We're not usually around when the events occur, but we try to catch them when possible.</p>
Do you know a bit about your grandkidsâ preference in video games and movies?

<p>Yes, on a few occasions.</p><p>All the time!</p><p>When they visit, and sometimes for brunch on Sunday.</p><p>Sure! We go out to a breakfast place and they order whatever they like, or we make their special pancakes at home.</p><p>We try to take them out when we visit; it's our special time.</p><p>Not every year.</p>
Do you go on outdoor trips with your grandkids like fishing or camping?
<p>Sometimes we take them to our cabin.</p><p>Yes, it's fun to watch them learn.</p><p>It's a great opportunity to teach them outdoor skills and lore.</p><p>We have great memories of the fun we have had.</p><p>One year we did, when they came to visit.</p><p>We aren't really set up for this kind of outing.</p>
Have you taken your grandkids to the shopping mall?
<p>We get them each a special outfit each year.</p><p>We're there more often than we like to think about.</p><p>Yes, but we try to avoid letting them run wild there.</p><p>Definitely, and we spend some time at the arcade and food court.</p><p>We take them and let them pick out a few special things when we visit.</p><p>We send gift cards so they can shop for themselves.</p>
What kind of clothes do your grandkids like to receive and wear?
<p>I really don't know.</p><p>It changes so often, we try to be practical.</p><p>I try to focus on something practical, like footwear.</p><p>I go online and try to figure it out, then I ask them to tell me about their preferences.</p><p>Who knows these days?</p><p>We don't really spend much time around kids, so it's hard to say.</p>
Do you keep your grandkidsâ favorite meals and snacks on hand just in case?
<p>We order in when they come around.</p><p>We rotate meals through some special dishes, yes.</p><p>Comfort foods make our time together more relaxed and fun.</p><p>They never tire of Mac and Cheese, and I keep plenty in the freezer.</p><p>We pick up some tasty takeout when we visit.</p><p>We usually just go out.</p>
Have you and your grandkids gotten together more than twice this year?
<p>Definitely, at least once a month if we can.</p><p>Seven times a week, usually.</p><p>We try not to disrupt the balance of their lives, but yes.</p><p>We like to mix up their lives pretty often, respecting their schoolwork and family time.</p><p>We do if we get a chance.</p><p>If we're in town, yes.</p>
Do you live more than 200 miles from your children and grandkids?
