Every movie producer has aspirations of making an Oscar-Nominated film. Some raise the money and get their film released only to see their dreams dashed by box office returns. Other movies become best picture winners after years of development. In many cases, if it weren't for a positive review at a film festival some of these films wouldn't have ever secured a release in Los Angeles County. By the way that's one of the requirements the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences requires for a film to be considered for an Oscar. So a movie gets made, and it makes a ton of money.
